Bless the Fallen The Eclectic Sounds of a City Painted Black and White
By Mike SOS
The Poughkeepsie, NY, sextet Bless the Fallen unleash a sturdy but standard metalcore assault with the 10-track The Eclectic Sounds of a City Painted Black and White. Tumultuous guitars and bulldozing drums collide head to head with your basic modern hardcore scream/spoken word vocal interplay on cuts like "Stepping Away From Defeat," while "...To Be Evil" showcases this squad's penchant for whipping up a tasty hardcore metallic stew and "Eclectic Sounds" shows that this troupe can strip down and break out the acoustic guitars for a campfire jamboree when needed. Leaning heavily on the melo-death sounds of Sweden while implementing a few stock metalcore nuances, there's not remotely anything unique about this disc, but these guys do an ample job of juxtaposing the two styles into something that purists will loathe but the kids will mosh to.
