Night Listener By Jeremy Grand What do Eazy-E, Gwen Stefani, Weezer, Salt-N-Pepa, Notorious BIG, Elton John, The Pixies, M.I.A., The Verve, The Beatles and Madonna all have in common? Give up? They are all victims of the chaotic mash-up by Pittsburgh DJ Girl Talk on his latest album Night Listener. While this whole CD is basically hacking everyone who is anyone in the pop music world, the mash-ups are surprisingly well put together, incorporating something for everyone at the apartment bash. Don't think it's anything like that Z100 DJ who takes the shit songs that they play 20 times an hour and slops them together during rush hour; this is so much better than that. Who else can easily get away with putting together "Heyyy we want some pussssay!" with "I love you" sung by Paul McCartney. An insult to classic rock or just a rollick in the biggest musical database you've ever seen? You decide. We choose the latter though, and Girl Talk can mix at our mixer any day. |
