Gene Casey & The Lone Sharks What Happened
By Tiffany Razzano
North Fork's Gene Casey & The Lone Sharks, a popular party band on the East End for the last 20 years, have released their fourth album of original rockabilly and roots material, What Happened. With Casey's deep baritone at times bringing to mind Johnny Cash, from Americana roots to western swing to rockabilly, The Lone Sharks pay tribute to a bygone era of American music, creating authentic, old-fashioned rock 'n' roll. But while Casey's songwriting borrows from another time, their songs still have a modern edge to them, allowing them to stand on their own in a contemporary setting. Stand-out tracks are "Which Lie to Tell," "A Better Place," "If I Can Do It (So Can You)" and "Ain't Easy Leavin'."
