In time for Valentine’s Day, Figjam Art announces the premier of a playful, yet earnest, series of sculptures featuring the theme “What Love Is.” Designed by a native of Sydney, Australia now living in New York’s historic Hudson Valley, the sculptures combine Swarovski crystals with contemporary, limited edition LEGO pieces, as well as vintage bricks from the artist’s own collection.
Artist Cimon is creating eight unique sculptural environments depicting visual metaphors of love. Fresh interpretations of classic romantic love, the sculptures will speak to both adults and children on many levels. To view the first two in the series, click here.
All the figures are sculpted of LEGOs. Nearly every LEGO brick has been treated to a new skin in a variety of colors and finishes: bright red, black matte, etc. LEGO bricks are used to create environments and scenarios that bring joy to people of all ages. Like love, they are fun, yet serious.
The sculptures are then bathed in crystals manufactured by Swarovski. Each crystal is meticulously placed by hand. Again, like love, these brilliant and colorful elements are precious and fragile.
The first of the series to be completed, Finding Love in Unexpected Places and Love to the Rescue, make observations about the emotion’s joyfulness, desirability and universality. Cimon will unveil two additional sculptures each month through May.

About the Sculptures
Love to the Rescue
When we think of “love to the rescue,” we might imagine a scenario in which love motivates a hero to save a damsel in distress while putting himself in physical danger. A popular template for this idea is the prince in shining armor rescuing the princess from a dangerous, fire-breathing dragon. The dragon here, however, has shining copper skin, silver horns, and red and green Swarovski crystals in lieu of scales. The black, craggy mountain that serves as the princess’ prison is decorated with crystals of different colors, sizes and shapes.
Finding Love in Unexpected Places
You never know where you may find love. Here, a LEGO excavator has struck love in the form of red Swarovski crystal hearts. As the excavator continues to dig into its trove, a truck awaits nearby to take the treasure away. The excavator and truck feature silver finishes and clear crystals while the mountain hiding the hearts wears a mix of clear and red crystals.
About the Artist
Best known as a painter of a style he calls “Colour Therapy,” Cimon’s works have attracted collectors in the U.S., U.K., continental Europe and Australia. His paintings present a strong sense of color; an awareness that he developed while growing up in the lush suburbs of Sydney, Australia’s largest city.
Cimon uses color on large canvasses to create dimension and depth in order to convey a powerful range of emotions. Although samples can be viewed online, the viewer cannot fully appreciate them in a virtual medium.
Cimon holds a B.F.A. from the Parsons School of Design in New York. He also has an advanced diploma in graphic design and advertising from the Billy Blue School of Graphic Arts & Advertising in Sydney, as well as an Advanced Diploma of Fine Arts from Northern Sydney College of Fine Arts.
